FRANCISTOWN: Plans for the construction of a new mall in the countries second city are in the early phases. The mall, expected to be something similar to Rail Park in Gaborone could prove to be a windfall for the city's economy.

Department of Town and Regional planning, Principal Planner Bashimi Phillime has confirmed plans for the new mall. It will be located opposite Meriting Complex, on land that belongs to Botswana Railways (BR)."The plans are still in the pipeline, especially since BR is yet to finalise them. The mall will be built with the same concept as Rail Park in mind," she said.

Phillime said initially the concept was supposed to start in Francistown instead of Gaborone. "The delay was due to the fact that Francistown City Council (FCC) wanted to build a market there to cater for the informal sector, but the plans were put on hold when the market was placed opposite our Fire Department building," she said.
