Botswana to host TICAD IV ministers' conference

TOKYO: Botswana will host a high-level African ministers' conference at the end of March to deliberate on the level of implementation on commitments made by Japan to the continent at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) last year and the impact of the global economic downturn.

"The meeting is very important because it does not only monitor the level of implementation of each commitment but also helps Africa voice its concerns regarding the current economic situation," said Seiji Okada, who is the Director of Second Africa Division in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Okada said Japan would present all concerns of foreign affairs, trade and finance and the impact of the global credit crisis that African ministers will raise in Tokyo to the G20 meeting that will be held in London in April. (The only African country eligible to attend the G20 meeting is South Africa).
