Botswana jumps nine places in Doing Business rankings

Botswana has jumped nine places in the 2014 edition of the authoritative Doing Business Report, buoyed largely by a regulatory change scrapping environmental studies for low-risk projects.

The latest edition of the report, however, notes that several regulatory improvements helped Botswana climb to 56th in the world from 65 last year, with the country topping several Doing Business indicators at SADC regional level.

While technically Botswana was ranked 59th worldwide last year, the 2014 edition of the report revised this to 65 due to data correction as well as the need to factor in four debutants in the current edition of the report.
