Botswana in new poverty reduction drive

Dr Tebogo Seleka of the Botswana Institute of Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA) said in Francistown this week that poverty should not just be viewed as an income concept but rather as a multifaceted challenge.

He said through the multi-dimensional approach, Botswana would strive to achieve poverty-related components of its Vision 2016. He said the National Strategy for Poverty Reduction (NSPR) intends to target social investment in a way that reduces inter-regional disparities. "It also intends to enhance organisational capacity of the poor through strengthening local government institutions," Seleka said at the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty in Francistown.
