Botswana cattle to improve Angola's genetic beef stock

The export of live cattle from Botswana to Angola will assist the people of that country establish a superior beef breeding programme, the CEO of the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), David Falepau, has said.That was why only select breeds like Brahman, Bonsmara and Jersey would be exported to Angola, Falepau explained.

"The 650 cattle of specific breeds are a once-off consignment to assist Angolans in establishing a superior beef genetic breeding programme," he said. The BMC's intention to export live cattle to the SADC country on the Atlantic coast has been advertised in the local media.

"The BMC's recently advertised call for the supply of 650 cattle for live export to Angola from FMD-free zones (Green Zones) was instigated as bilateral cooperation between the two countries to further the development of their respective livestock industries," Falepau said.  Botswana was also making arrangements to commence the live export of cows from the Red Zone, Ngamiland, under the same programme.
