Bots economy to shrink by 10 % -IMF

The recent forecast by the IMF that the economy of Botswana would experience a steep -10.4 percent real GDP growth in 2009 means the country is technically in a recession, says renowned economist Keith Jefferis.

"Its quite a scary figure," Jefferis said on Wednesday at the Botswana Resource Sector Conference organised by Capital Resources.

"If your largest sector of the economy produces half of what they produced last year, then the economy is clearly in a technical recession."
