Bothakga clinches P3.7 billion Cut 8 deal

A local company, Bothakga Burrow Botswana, has won a lucrative tender of P3.7 billion or US$586 million at the world's richest diamond mine, Jwaneng, to work on the mine's expansion project dubbed Cut 8.

Bothakga MD, Arthur Siwawa, this week told Mmegi they anticipate they will employ in excess of 600 Batswana of various skills and trades, with a strong emphasis on training and development in Botswana and abroad.

Project commencement is early May 2011, with completion scheduled for December 2016. The citizen company was founded in 1972 and will be involved in the mining project through a joint venture (JV) company called Majwe Mining where Bothakga is a 12-percent shareholder. The other shareholders are Botswana-based South African company Basil Read Mining and Leighton International.  In an interview, Siwawa described the diamond mining deal as their most lucrative ever since they ventured into mining six years ago.
