The Bank of Botswana (B0B) is keeping details of the defective new notes under lock and key, saying investigations are still underway regarding the exact number and denominations of the notes that could be affected.

This follows revelations last month that some of the new notes, particularly the P100 bill, have been found to be defective hardly a month after being released. In his response to Mmegi questions, BoB's Public Relations Officer says although defects have been found only on the P100 note so far, tests are being done on the rest of the notes, particularly those with a holographic stripe, to determine whether they have not be affected by the printing fault that caused the defects on the P100 bill.

Although Chepete Chepete would not be drawn into saying how many other bills could be affected, he said it could not been more than what is already in circulation.
