BMC unveils new compensation policy

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Animals that are sick and/or injured will be killed and incinerated alongside those that are dead on arrival at the BMC because they are "risk material" but there will be no compensation to producers, Mmegi has established.

This method of disposal is to be followed if such animals miss the abattoir kill and only on instructions of the veterinary officer or animal health officer on duty when the animals arrive.

Explaining the new policy that has been in force since March 1, the Corporate Communications and PR Manager of the BMC, Tiro Kganela, says standard slaughter procedure is to receive cattle from Sunday to Thursday for slaughter the following day.
