BMC Keen On farmer Viability - Swartz

As an illustration of its objective to increase operational efficiency and farmer viability, the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) opened a branch in Molepolole last week.

The branch, which was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Johnnie Swartz last Friday, is the second after Francistown and the third BMC facility in the country, if the headquarters in Lobatse is included.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Swartz said five more branches - Ghanzi, Tsabong, Mahalapye, Serowe and Maun - are scheduled for opening this year as the BMC goes on an aggressive programme to re-claim its customer base that has been getting eroded by private abattoirs and 'small time' village butcheries.
