Bifm forecasts mixed outlook for economy

Economic fortunes going forward rest on several precarious factors that could either propel the country towards a balanced budget and sustained economic growth or plunge it into more deficits and fiscal instability.

Bifm's first quarter research report identifies several focal points that are expected to determine the economy's direction for 2011/12 and beyond. In the report, released last week, Bifm Investment Committee Chair, Keith Jefferis, says economic prospects going forward were "decidedly mixed" and difficult to ascertain.

"With regard to the impact of the budget, the proposed reduction of the deficit and the objective of restoring a balanced budget is good news in terms of long-term fiscal sustainability," says Jefferis.
