The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has embarked on a four-year study to develop a strategic plan aimed at boosting citizen empowerment, the National Assembly has been told.

Officials say the envisaged plan, which will run from July 2007 to June 2011, will replace a previous one that ran from 2004 to 2007, much of whose objectives have been achieved.Briefing Members of Parliament last Thursday, BDC Managing Director Kenneth Matambo said under the new strategy, the BDC aims to promote joint ventures between citizen and foreign investors, prioritise divestments to citizens and assist citizens in management buy-outs.

The BDC also plans to investigate the possibility of divesting from some subsidiaries through the listing of shares on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE).
