KAZUNGULA: The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has acquired the Kazungula-based two-star Toro Lodge at a whopping P22 million from a citizen owned company, MAMASE Investments (Pty), journalists were told.

Briefing touring journalists, BDC principal public affairs officer, Boitshwarelo Lebang oozed confidence that the BDC plan of turning its latest acquisition into a five-star lodge and handing it over to its long time partner, Cresta Group of Companies was on course.  "In future, the Cresta Group of Companies could run this lodge after we have turned it into a five-star facility. Talks along those lines are on course," explained Lebang when addressing journalists on the banks of the Chobe River, where the lodge is located.  The BDC spokesperson indicated that through the BDC Property Division, "we are going to expand this lodge.  It happened that when the owner was disposing of the lodge, BDC was interested with the aim of further expanding the lodge to tap on its potential."

Lebang was, however, unspecific on the timeframe.  "But this facility is certainly going to be upgraded to maximise its potential," she said. She would also not say how much BDC is going to spend on the planned expansion project.
