BCL donates start-up tool kits to carpenters

SELEBI-PHIKWE: BCL Mine this week donated P30 000 worth of start-up equipment to 12 carpentry artisans and eight textile students sponsored by the Botswana Council of Churches (BCC).

Speaking at the handover ceremony, BCC Project Coordinator in Selebi-Phikwe, Pabalelo Pabalelo, said the 12 carpenters had undergone a two-year training course at BCC Centre at the Botshabelo neighbourhood. Pabalelo said the primary objective of BCC had always been to help train underprivileged youth across the country. "Since 1972, BCC has been providing training in the field of carpentry," he said. "We introduced textiles a few years ago.

"In 2005, we got into a five-year partnership with the Department of Youth that expired last year. We are operating without a sponsor at the moment." He encouraged the recipients of the equipment to make good use of it because it was not everyday that people were helped to set up their businesses.
