Australia based Mount Burgess Mining has been granted seven prospecting licences for diamond exploration in Western Ngamiland. The licences cover an area of about 7,000m2 on the south-eastern margins of the Angolan Craton. It has been highly prospective for the discovery of diamondiferous kimberlites.

The area adjoins the diamond exploration licences held by the company at Tsumkwe in north-eastern Namibia, where Mount Burgess has discovered three kimberlites to date. Mount Burgess believed that it is in an advantageous position to have secured the grant of the prospecting licences in Botswana because it had now consolidated a significant area.

"The company would like to thank the Department of Geological Survey of Botswana and the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources for their efforts in processing these applications.
