Aussie firm extends coal exploration footprint

Nimrodel Resources has extended their exploration area in the country by signing a farm-in and joint venture (JV) agreement to acquire up to 65 percent of Botswana-domiciled company, Triprop Energy.

In a statement, the Australian Stock Exchange-listed firm said the agreement with Triprop increased Nimrodel's target area in Botswana from 500 square kilometres to more than 2 000 square kilometres, joining the long list of coal-focused Australian firms."The signing of this agreement is another exciting step for Nimrodel in building a strong and strategic position in the Kweneng and Southern Districts of Botswana, a region that the company has identified for its potential to host a major thermal coal deposit," says Managing Director Chris Mason in the statement.

Triprop is actively exploring minerals in other regions of Botswana in addition to holding several mineral concessions for coal and coal bed methane (CBM) in the Kweneng and Southern Districts. The agreement to acquire up to 65 percent of four coal prospecting licences substantially increases Nimrodel's exposure to Botswana thermal coal exploration in Botswana.Nimrodel has been working at the Takatokwane tenement in the Kweneng region since May this year and has completed an initial resource-drilling programme there. Takatokwane, which lies in the southern belt of the Central Kalahari Sub-Basin, is the company's most advanced project and is located just 195 km from Gaborone. Under the terms of the agreement, Nimrodel will earn a 20-percent interest in Triprop Energy by completing Phase One of a drilling campaign. The first phase of the drilling will consist of 28 diamond core holes.
