MAUN: Speaking during the 2012 Aviation Pitso held at Maun Lodge recently, Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) CEO Major General Gobuamang Tlhokwane, said operating all airports on a 24-hour basis in Botswana is currently impossible due to lack of funds.

Tlhokwane was updating stakeholders on progress made on resolutions of last year's Aviation Pitso in Kasane. The forum had recommended that all airports should operate 24 hours a day.

He said part of the recommendation was that whenever aircrafts or airliners have to operate outside the airports' working hours, they would request CAAB to extend their working hours. He said CAAB is unable to implement this recommendation due to lack of funds to cover costs of additional staff required and other airport operations.
