Aircraft makers unveil new green jets

MAUN: Leading aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Embraer unveiled their latest environmentally friendly commercial jets during the recent Aviation Pitso in Maun.

Speaking to aviation operators in Maun, which boasts of one of the busiest airports in Africa in terms of landings and takeoffs by light aircrafts,  Airbus and Embraer pledged their commitment to manufacturing a new generation of carbon-free commercial jets.

The companies said despite air transport contributing only two percent of the entire greenhouse emissions into the atmosphere, they are determined to keep the emissions lower by adopting better technologies in aircraft making. They however, complained that  lack of structural engineers in the world job market stands in the way of better environmental solutions. Often they are forced to rely on civil engineers for jobs that should be done by structural engineers, they posited.
