AfDB explains what's on offer

Visiting African Development Bank (AfDB) officials have asked Botswana to critically examine opportunities aimed at fighting unemployment and poverty available from the institution.

The purpose of the meeting was to enable the AfDB to explain its products available mainly to the private sector. Speaking at a conference at the Ministry of Finance in Gaborone on Tuesday, the AfDB officials said although Botswana has a very impressive per capita income, unemployment and poverty are major concerns and the country must therefore take advantage of opportunities available from the AfDB to deal with these challenges.

According to a chief economist at the institution, Stephen Olanrewaju, Botswana could even cause things to be changed at the AfDB so that the bank could finance the country under its co-financing arrangement.
