Chartered accountants have been challenged to assist government in driving the economic growth of the country. The president of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA), Rudi Binedell made the call last week when presenting the new BICA council members.

BICA is a professional body of accountants incorporated in terms of the Accountants Act 2010 to represent members’ interests and ensure observance of the highest professional and ethical standards by its members.

Binedell said the country’s economic growth remains fragile, pressured by the poor performance of the mining sector. He said the institute is an important arm as it plays an advisory role to government on economic development.  He said the role of the institution overlaps to assisting corporate and state entities to be productive and sustainable.
