'Absurd' MVA law to become victim-friendly

The senior management of the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund is hoping that the parastatal's legislative review that is currently underway will answer some of the harsh criticism levelled against it.

Since its establishment in 1987, the MVA Fund has attracted strong denunciation from a large section of society, largely for its fault-based compensation system.

The system has resulted in innocent victims of road traffic accidents going uncompensated in certain instances. The Fund has also been panned for the time taken to compensate road traffic accident victims or their dependants.
