FRANCISTOWN: Preparations for one of the biggest calendar events in Botswana's second city, the Northern BOCCIM Trade Fair (BNTF), are at an advanced stage.

The Manager of BOCCIM's Northern Region, Eileen van der Est, says 90 exhibitors have confirmed their participation in the trade spectacular that is scheduled for 26 to 29 May.

This year's edition - the 17th - is themed: "The Road to Economic Recovery Powered By The Private Sector." The guest speaker will be the Managing Director of Debswana, Jim Gowans. Botswana mines have had a conspicuous absence at BNTF, and indications are that this year will be no different. Van der Est says they have not had any positive response to their invitations to the mines. "We sent out invitations to the mines, but most of them have not responded yet," she says. "Only one mine has shown an interest in exhibiting this year, but we have not received their confirmation. So far we have 90 companies. The two halls and the paved area are fully booked but the marquees still have space. Our registration is still open and we are expecting more companies to register between now and the deadline."
