I am proudly ‘opposite poles’ with the columnist not only because Anonymous is a Domkrag dogmatist and I am open-minded, but because though endowed with basic skills for an analytical mind, she/he is fond of standing her subjects of analysis on their head and failing to make head or tail of it. Take the statement in the article of October 05 – 11, 2013: “The opposition should stop deluding itself into believing that it can emerge victorious just out of repeating the misfortunes that befall the country.” I can’t imagine any opposition to be delusional to an extent of thinking it can win government by ‘singing and repeating’ the misfortunes that befall the country. Interestingly what may be the alleged misfortunes sung about by the opposition that may have befallen the country? My hunch is, she/he is probably thinking of mismanagement of the BMC,BDC, Air Botswana, Basarwa persecution in the CKGR/Ranyane, the throwing of money at poverty eradication by razzmatazz workshops….; these ostensibly are the ‘misfortunes’ alleged to have befallen country! I trust Parliament will one day thoroughly probe the imprudent expenditures made in the name of poverty eradication and mismanagement of public enterprises bedeviling the economy!
The opposition demands prudence in public expenditures, delivery of quality public services, equal treatment of all Batswana irrespective of their ethnicity and creation of permanent employment opportunities for all able-bodied Batswana to lift themselves out of the poverty trap without beggaring their woebegone lives further in the midst of prosperity in the land of their birth. To ask the opposition to endorse without question these haphazard, promiscuous goings-on would be to egg on the Domkrag blunderbuss! Misfortunes, what misfortunes?
