Zola acted in self -defence - UBSRC

The University of Botswana Student Representative Council (SRC) has defended South African kwaito musician, Bonginkosi Dlamini aka Zola, after he assaulted a student at the 2011 UBSRC Freshers' Ball last Saturday.

The SRC said that Zola was acting in self-defence against the overly drunk fanatic who harassed the star during his performance.

Speaking to Showbiz in an interview, UBSRC secretary general, Kgotso Kennekae, who had a bird's eye view of the action, said that the concerned fan asked for it. He said that during his performance, Zola went near the fans to greet them as commonly done in live shows. He explained that the highly intoxicated fan who must have been waiting in anticipation, pounced on Zola when he got closer to where he was standing. He apparently grabbed Zola's foot and refused to let go of it. Kennekae said Zola then kicked the fan's leg in an attempt to free himself from his (the fan's) tight grip.
