Vote for the best not your Kinsmen - Sesinyi

The local singing competition, My Star director Keabetswe 'Master Dee' Sesinyi has appealed to Batswana not to let personal relationships influence their voting.

Batswana are given a chance every week to vote for the person whom they believe has talent with the least voted singer sent home every week. However, Sesinyi observed a new trend has emerged in this year's competition where voters prefer to vote for friends and relatives as opposed to talent.  In an interview with Showbiz Sesinyi said though he is impressed with the level at which Batswana are voting, it is unfortunate that they are not voting for the right people. "People should vote for talent and not for whom they know," he said. Sesinyi added that though they try to educate Batswana about the importance of voting properly it seems that their plea has fallen on deaf ears. He said there is nothing that adjudicators can do once viewers have spoken. "Though we realise that there is a problem there is nothing that we can do because this is the kind of voting system that is applied even at international level," he said. Sesinyi also blamed people who do not vote but complain when talented singers are not voted for.

"This is just like national elections where people do not vote but complain when prefered their party does not win," he said. With the competition headed to the finale in three weeks' time, less talented singers still remain in the competition, a thing that has raised eyebrows even among the judges.
