Uganda is 50 today

Uganda's golden jubilee falls on October 9. It is being recognised in Botswana by a number of events supported by the Association of Ugandans in Botswana.

These include an exhibit at Thapong Art Gallery that finishes on the 13th, an all day event at LKC also on the 13th, and a dinner-dance on October 20.On Thursday October 4 a photographic exhibit opened at Thapong. It was chaired by Reggie Bakwena and the speakers were Benjamin Binagwa, President of the Association of Ugandans in Botswana, and Sheldon Weeks who took the 47 black and white pictures on exhibit.

Professor Weeks explained that the pictures were all taken in Uganda between 1969 and 1972. They were exhibited 40 years ago at the Nommo Gallery in Kampala. They were mainly from four rural locations where the Uganda Youth Survey research project supported by the Overseas Development Agency of Great Britain was being carried out.
