Batswana were on Friday treated to Cuban dance at the University of Botswana by Cuban nationals residing in the country, as part of an ongoing exhibition at the institution.

The exhibition themed Knowing Cuba and Its People, is part of the country's initiative to take Cuba to Batswana in an effort to strengthen the existing friendship between the two countries.Among the beautiful dance styles that the audience was treated to were Guantanamera, Guaguanc— and Rumba, Rueda de Casino and Conga Santiaguera.

First on the menu was Guantanamera, a slow dance similar to ballroom dancing.  The male dancers clad in white shirts and matching cowboy hats were the most enterprising compared to their female partners who wore colourful skirts and blouses. Guantanamera dance is said to have been created by Cuban dancer, Jose Fernandez, in the early 1900s after his lover from Guantanamo left him.Guaguanc— was the most interesting.  The laid-back audience started paying attention.
