Botswana's leading female disc jockey Opelo Kim Malila, popularly known as DJ Kim-wizzy, has released her sizzling debut single Breakthrough.

The title of the track is in reference to her birthing in the music industry as a producer and the invention of a new genre in Botswana.Kim-wizzy is, so far, the only female who produces Dance music in the country. The emerging genre, Dance, is now dominant overseas. The vivacious turntablist is now preparing for an EP, which she intends to release within the next two months and then an album before the end of the year. But she has done remarkably well with Breakthrough, an outstanding party song. It has a fresh, pumping beat.

The distinctive Dance tune is the 25-year-old’s first single. She explains why she opted for the unique Dance tune."I have always played different music from local guys which helped me stand out as different; so I always play something that people often don’t hear," she told Showbiz. "I love it (dance) and besides, everyone here plays or produces house so we need something different."She started making home cooked beats in 2005 immediately after high school using fruity loops. Her club DJ career started in 2008 and she has become synonymous with Hip-house, a rare fusion of Hip hop and House. "I love music with more than just passion, the love of music drove and motivated me to stand up and represent women in this male dominated industry."She attributes her rise in the deejaying arena to taking her career seriously and performing with love and enthusiasm. Her ingenuity has earned her the title of 'The Female Husler'. Kim-wizzy has played on Owen Rampha's show, The Dance Experience. She also plays live on Botswana Television's (Btv) show, Flava Dome on selected Fridays. She singles out the cleavage World Cup party in Pretoria as one of her biggest gigs to date alongside the Tlhare ya Sechaba awards at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). She said: "It gave a satisfying feeling of the women empowerment goal in my career."The assertive DJ, who hails from Mathangwane, is currently working with award-winning Hip-hop artist Zeus (Game Bantsi) as his resident DJ.She plays at O'Hagan’s every Wednesday, hosting a women’s night where she plays soulful jazz.
