In an endeavour to take the visual arts to the countryside, Thapong Visual Arts Centre held a drawing and painting workshop called "Improving Livelihoods Through the Visual Arts" in Bobonong village last week.

Speaking to Showbiz in an interview, Thapong coordinator Reginald Bakwena said that this year, they intend to hold workshops in a number of villages across the country until the visual arts are visible. "We have realised that some artists think that to make it in the industry, they have to go to either Gaborone or Francistown, but we want to teach them that they can still succeed in their villages," he said adding that the centre intends to hold workshops in the villages of Tsabong and Gumare next month.   Keetile Malatsi, the administration research officer in the Bobirwa Constituency office, told Showbiz that the workshop is timely because the area has much talent that only needs to be nurtured.

"We toured the constituency some time last year and realised that there is a lot of talent among the youth, but the thing is it was not exploited so when Bakwena called me to say that they wanted to hold a workshop here in Bobonong, I readily agreed because that was what I had been hoping for," he said.
