TAYA slated for November 11

The coordinator of Thapong Visual Arts Centre, Reginald Bakwena, has announced that the annual Thapong Artist of the Year Awards (TAYA) will be held on November 11.

The deadline for submission is October 21. Speaking to Showbiz in an interview, Bakwena challenged prospective entrants to read judges' comments in the TAYA catalogue issued last year as it will help them come up with better pieces.  "The entrants must also follow the competition rules because presentation is very important and that is one of the things that the judges are going to be looking out for," he said adding that competition is going to be tough this year so the artists should offer their best.

He also reiterated that Thapong is going introduce a new category, namely craft category, and urged crafts people all over the country to register with the centre so as to be eligible to enter the awards.  "We have realised that most of our members based in the rural areas specialise in crafts so this category will be introduced to cater especially for them," Bakwena had said in an earlier interview adding that last year they also introduced the design category.
