For a bass and drum groove, it oozes vigour and soul. The music reminds one of RB1's Sunday jazz show. The music is relaxing.Hansen-Larson announces that they have just performed Dexterity, a tune written by renowned American jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker.A workshop follows. The visiting artists answers questions from local artists. Hansen-Larson explains that they can do almost all genres of music from pop, jazz, hip-hop to funk. He says that he has learnt through the years to improvise and see what comes out.
Alguilin adds, "I always improvise in a personal way because expression is then created in that way". The workshop forms part of preparations for the Mascom Live Sessions billed for Botswanacraft on Friday. The Swedish government, in conjunction with Botswanacraft and Street Horn is behind the initiative, which seeks to see collaboration between artists from Sweden and Botswana. The Friday gig is headlined by Anna Christoffersson from Sweden featuring Pablo Donaldo (guitar and percussion), Johan Hanson-Larson (bass) and Jonatan Alguilin (drums). Artists from Botswana are Shanti Lo, Nnunu Ramogotsi and Lister Boleseng.Shanti Lo said the partnership has proved to be a success. He said he aspires to see local music grow to international standards. He said having performed in Sweden, he is pleased to see Swedish artists performing in Botswana.
