Soweto String Quartet coming

The highly acclaimed South African band Soweto String Quartet (SSQ) is billed to perform at Botswanacraft on May 31. Known for their jazz sounds, which are fused with dashes of classical music, the four-man band is expected to bring a different sound to town with their four-stringed instruments of the violin family.

Made up of three brothers and a childhood friend, the ensemble was formed in 1989 and has Sandile Khemese on first violin, Thami Khemese on second violin, Makhosini Mguni on viola and cellist Reuben Khemese.

The band has had a significant following since its formative days.  They have performed alongside international artists like Whitney Houston as supporting acts for her South African Tour in 1994.
