The first thing that captivates your attention when you converse with her is her rather unique name, Tuauana.

However, the catch here is that the name is not directly pronounced the way it is written.  A Herero name meaning Unity, Tuauana is pronounced (Twa-wa-na). Born 23 years ago to a Motswana mother of Herero descent and a Scottish father, Tuauana Shepherd is one of the few Batswana make-up artists making a name for themselves.  Because of her origins, she has named her company Scotswana MakeUp to reflect her two cultures.  She explains that she has had the best of both worlds when growing up, hence her decision to adopt a blended title for her business.

Shepherd states that her love affair with make-up began at an early age.  She says that her fascination always led her to be the one making up her friends whenever there were special occasions to be attended.  She adds that after graduating in Performing Arts, she decided to take her passion to the next level by doing a Diploma at the London Beauty Academy, specialising in make-up and all the dynamics that come with it.  Since then, the young entrepreneur says, she has not looked back and is doing her best to make a mark as a make-up artist.
