Selebi-Phikwe to stage Hip-hop music contest

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Hip-hop and break dance lovers will have a chance to battle it out on stage during a competition to be held in the PAG Theatre at Makhubu Area 2 Club.

Organiser Michael Makgolela told Showbiz in an interview last week that the event is being promoted by Smoke Deal on May 29. He explained that the competition is targets at school going youth but even out-of-school youth are encouraged to participate. "The winner in the rapping category will be given a chance to record a single track at Kingdoms studio in Mmadinare. The winner will also walk away with a cash prize that is yet to be decided," he said.

Makgolela said the winner in the break dance category would be given an opportunity to appear in a music video that will be shot in Selebi-Phikwe. He mentioned that registration is ongoing at various outlets in the mall area and in various schools. He stated that the aim of the event is to identify talent in this town and to provide entertainment to the youth. "There is no entertainment in Selebi-Phikwe as a result most youth end up going to bars and clubs for leisure. We want to curb alcohol abuse in this town that is rising," he remarked. The youthful Makgolela complained that the Selebi-Phikwe Town Council is not doing enough to cater for the youth, especially in entertainment, and some people have been involved in road accidents while travelling to entertainment joints in other towns.
