Sechele I Museum braces for President's Day art contests

As the President's Day music and art competitions draw nearer exhibits continue to pour in at the Sechele I Museum in Molepolole.

Though the numbers seem to have dropped compared to last year, the organisers of the competition (Kweneng Region) are optimist that the competition will live up to its billing. Curator Kawina Kawina has stated that the dwindling numbers might be due to  the fact that unlike before, when they were not so strict about the dateline for registration, this year they had tightened the screws, hence most artists have missed the boat.

"We have started collecting exhibits and we are positive that we will get quality despite some artists missing the deadline.  Of course one could say maybe those who missed the deadline might be carrying the region's best, but I want to believe that those pitching will bring us good exhibits," Kawina said. Kawina also noted that despite the fall in entries, it is encouraging that there are a lot of new and young entrants, which should reflect the much-needed diversity.
