Sculptor, Ndudzo dies

Gaborone based talented sculptor, Barnabas Ndudzo (67) is no more. Ndudzo passed away over the weekend in Gaborone.

Thapong Arts Centre holds a memorial for the sculptor tomorrow.  The Zimbabwean born sculptor's hand carved works can still be bought on internet stores such as eBay, webartprice.com, and other internet sites. Thapong  Arts Centre coordinator,  Reginald Bakwena  has described the sculptor as a rare kind. Bakwena says  as a Thapong artist, Ndudzo contributed a lot in imparting his sculptor curving skills. ' He lived a life of a professional artist. Even myself, when I started my art works, Ndudzo was a great inspiration. Ndudzo won several awards for his artworks including the coveted Thapong artist of the year in 2007.  In 2010 his sculpture skills took him to the United States of America where he conducted a workshop in  New Hampshire.

Ndudzo has been in Botswana showcasing his art skills since 1996, according to his son Shepherd, who is also described as a talented sculptor. However, Shepherd who says they will be transporting Ndudzo's remains to Harare during the week,  reckons he is no match for the sculptor. ' He was the master of his trade. I try to explore myself. I was working at Thapong(with him). I am planning to go back and continue sculpturing there"
