SA Motswana artist gives locals a run for their money

If our local traditional musicians are not careful, they are going to be beaten in their game by fellow Batswana from neighbouring South Africa and Martin Khupe has proven that with his latest release, Khupamarama.

Khupe, who is a Morolong from South Africa, sounds like a man who has done his research about the nature of traditional Setswana folk music and he has included all the elements of the genre in his engaging offering.

During a chat with Showbiz, the dreadlocked artist confessed that local artists have done a great deal to revive Setswana music in South Africa and the genre is now becoming lucrative in his home country. He also revealed that so far, Batswana artists sell well in North West, Limpopo, Free State and Lesotho.
