Afro jazz sensation, Punah Gabasiane, over the weekend celebrated a decade in music.

Punah hosted a special session at the Satchmos Jazz Caf in Gaborone West where patrons celebrated her music.  By hosting the event, Puna was looking at her accomplishments as well as reflecting on the challenges that she encountered as an artist.  She also paid tribute to the people who supported her and contributed much to her career growth.  Some of the people Puna honoured included the former conductor of KTM Choir, and Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) leader, Gomolemo Motswaledi and jazz promoter, Soares Katumbela as well as veteran drummer Enock Mbewe. Motswaledi mentored Puna when she was still with the KTM Choir.  As for Katumbela, he was the one who introduced her to Afro jazz.  The jazz promoter teamed her up with Abraxas band.

She said Mbewe suggested to her that she should record an album after noticing her talent.  That was how Puna recorded her first album, which happened to be gospel melodies.  Representatives of the Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) as well as Puna's followers graced the event.  Even fellow musicians like Shanti-Lo, Nono Siile and the other Ladies Of Jazz stars attended the event.  Guests were treated to video clips capturing Puna's musical journey.  Puna also made a brief appearance on the stage.  Guests were also treated to her music throughout the evening.  This was a special moment for an ecstatic Puna.  "It has not been easy but I have managed.  Some people do not last this long in music business  because there are lots of challenges," she enthused.  Reflecting on her journey, Puna says she has made some achievements in local terms.  But she intends to spread her wings beyond the borders.
