Poison poetry night rocks the audience

Poetry lovers converged at Gaborone's Alliance Franaise on Friday for a spectacle - the first of its kind ever - of artists performing slam poetry blindfold.

The event, which was arranged by Art of Soul Organisation, attracted quite a large number of people who seemed to enjoy every bit of it.It kick started with  the musical performance by  Moe and Cliff.  Blindfolded poets, who appeared on stage with their different unique pieces that provoked emotions would later follow. The poets included guitarist Sabade, Gino- price, D-Nace, Ivan, Baletsi, Poem-the-answer, just to name a few while the DJ, who kept people on their toes, was none other than DJ Boski.

The Master of Ceremonies (MC) Onkemetse Sebenyane, who was also the event organiser, spent the entire night conducting the event blindfolded to demonstrate his love and support for the blind community. In an interview, the 22-year-old told Showtime that it was indeed a very challenging experience for him as he had to disciple himself way in advance so that he did not get tempted to take off the blind-fold."It was a new experience for me and the performers as we have prudently used our eyes; so we had to re-learn how to trust our other senses, it was difficult to rely on our other senses to imagine how the visually impaired cope in their day-to-day activities," he said.
