Poetry Africa enthralls

Although in its 16th year running, Poetry Africa was hosted in Botswana for the first time and those in attendance were not disappointed as they lapped the captivating fusion of music, word and sound. The event brought together the best of the best from different African countries such a Kenya, Ghana and South Africa as well as local poets.
The Poetry Africa show can be best described as a cultural exchange between the performing artists from the different countries. As the poets performed their pieces they dropped in lines of the struggles and the challenges that the people in their countries faced.The opening act was by Batswana poets among them Mandisa Mabuthoe who performed Little Princess and veteran poet Barolong Seboni who did three pieces titled African Hair, Street Kids and He loves me...He Loves Me Not. Moroka Moreri also took to the stage clad in his trademark traditional leather gear. He did a freestyle performance in Setswana that had the audience in stitches as it was peppered with humour .
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
