The car crash in which kwaito star Mandoza was involved has taken a new twist. A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at the Honeydew police station - but not against him.

Johannesburg metro police now say they don't believe the singer, whose real name is Mduduzi Tshabalala, was behind the wheel of the Mini Cooper that crashed into a palm tree in the northwestern Johannesburg suburb of Weltevreden Park on Sunday.

Tshabalala was treated at the Helen Joseph Hospital and discharged the same day. The car, which was allegedly being driven at high speed, careered onto a pavement and crashed into the tree before spinning back on to the road. Mandoza was seated in the back seat when paramedics arrived.
