New Kalanga comedy fills Civic hall

From the moment they strolled onto the stage sporting tattered clothes resembling elderly village men during the launch of their first Kalanga comedy show, laughter flowed easily.

The play was staged at the Francistown Civic Centre hall on Friday night.  Nyambi Dza Ntolo's (loosely translated to Yesteryear's Funny Men) depiction of real life stories in a theatrical fashion, seemed to excite the audience throughout the 90-minute long presentation.

The upcoming and youthful comedians in Khumiso Tlhalefang, 22, Oagile Mosalagae and Dennis Nthata, both aged 21-years-old, joked about everything from relationships to technology and social ills. The show was a sold-out affair despite the fact that the performers are an unknown entity.  They combined their knowledge of current affairs and history, intelligence and cynical humour, to tackle issues like greed in society, the distribution of national wealth, democracy, poverty and many other weighty issues.
