My Star Top 37 selected

After touring the country for weeks searching for aspiring singers, judges of the My Star television singing contest have finally picked the top 37. The pack will battle it out at the Botswana Television (Btv) auditorium for the 2013 title which comes with P100,000 prize money.

The producer of the show, Keabetswe 'Master Dee' Sesinyi told Showbiz yesterday that the hopefuls will grace the local silver screen on March 3, 2013.However, the actual recording of the show will be on March 1st.Almost 200 people made the preliminary cut. In the second round on Saturday, 150 fell by the wayside.A record 50 proceeded to the Sunday audition where 37 got the judges' nod."The judges, with the help of the public votes, will determine the people who will proceed with the competition because we want to reduce the number (of contestants). Right now I will not reveal the number we want to be left with. It will be a surprise," he said .He further added that this year the competition will be tougher."Almost all we gave a go-ahead to the final round were very good singers. It was hard on us when we were cutting down the 200 to 50 and even harder when we reduced them to 37 because the singers all came prepared. They all wowed us but at the end, we had to select the very best," he pointed out.An initial 248 contestants across the country had aced the first auditions on the basis of their raw singing ability.

However, over the past weekend, judges used vocal toning and stage performance as a yardstick to select the 37 singers.Master Dee further told Showbiz that the public should look out for this year's competition, as for the first time, there are more male contestants.
