Music and fun in the farm

With all the hustle and bustle of daily life within the city, we all need a little time off to get our heads on straight, and let our hair down a bit. That is why most farms of recent are being turned into getaway places for relaxation and hang out spots.

Masimong getaway, some 10km outside the city is no exception. Situated just a stone's throw away from Rasesa village Masimong was on Saturday alive with activities as Afri-can International, a tourism company owned by Ashley Lambert hosted an arts and cultural event.  The P70 ticketed show which started early in the afternoon with just the attendants having a relaxation time with a braai and camping took advantage of the cultural event to set some stalls selling different merchants ranging from traditional crafts and local music cassettes and food. Kids were also catered for with jumping castles. With a beautiful and world class stage set, the show gained momentum as the day progressed with different artists sharing the stage among them Samantha Mogwe, Groovy Souls and the highlight of the night, The Metrophones who gave the audience worth for their money with their hyped up live performance.  Though the attendance was not inspiring, the Tours and Events Manager, Lambert said he wanted to have a big international music and cultural festival as a way of promoting Africa to Europe. He told Showtime that it was difficult to stage a big show when there are no companies interested in sponsoring the event stressing that he initially wanted to showcase local talent alongside international acts.

"Afri-can International promotes Africa to European countries and this was going to be a stepping stone to showcase local talent as we have some tourists here today,'' he said.Lambert said artists from Austria, Brazil, South Africa and United Kingdom were interested in being part of the show but due to lack of commitment from the sponsors he had to cut the line up to only local acts.
