Mr Fisa joins the Motswako revolution

Like any other culture, the Hip-Hop culture is dynamic and changes with time.

Hip-hop culture originated in New York in the United States of America (US) among black and Latino ghettos in the 60s and has since turned into a world phenomenon, The culture spilled into the streets and recording studios and a new genre of music was born. Interestingly, locals are using their creativity to revolutionise this urban sound and make it more relevant to the local market and the region.

A hybrid genre called Motswako continues to grow by leaps and bounds as more and more youngsters get lured to rapping in their mother tongue. One of them is little known Mr Fisa (Bophelo Loeto) who believes in living a dream as opposed to going after big cash. For years now the youngster has nurtured a dream of climbing to the top of the hip-hop ladder and although he still looks far from reaching the ultimate goal, he has the determination and the zeal to do so. "Hip-hop is like the old times mephato (regiments) where one had to prove himself before being recognised and chosen by the masses as the leader. So right now I am investing both money and time in that; I have only released a promotional mix-tape and the album will come later," Mr Fisa said.
