Mpete wins DTC shining light award

Budding local designer Banyana Mpete was on Friday crowned the winner of this year's diamond jewellery design competition, the Shining Light Award, the brainchild of the Diamond Trading Centre (DTC).

Mpete wins herself P50,000 cash, after winning with a captivating necklace design that shows an energetic woman working.  The 18 carat white and yellow gold neckpiece is also set with 486 round brilliant and fancy cut diamonds with a total weight of 36.63 carats.

She will also exhibit at an international event in South Africa.Other winners on the night were David Moatsi, with a neckpiece with diamonds weighing 47.58 carats.  It is also set with 1,304 round brilliant tapers and baguette cut diamond.  Olerato Temogo, Catherine Markeydes, Thusonyana Othomile, Lesedi Aboneng, Tshegofatso Ragontse also won themselves P5,000 each.  Their winning pieces have made it into a catalogue that will go around the world displaying these unique designs.
