Molepolole's Boloke jumps on the bandwagon

Traditional music is one of the genres that continue to grow in the country, as new artists recording songs that celebrate Setswana culture continue to emerge on the local scene.

Over the years, especially after the commercialisation of traditional music, the market has seen a number of upcoming traditional musicians, perhaps influenced by the fact that those who started it all have reaped enormous benefits.

The genre undoubtedly is important, as it keeps Setswana culture alive, and sells Setswana culture to the outside world. And the fact that most of the musicians doing very well overseas are those who are in this traditional music genre has not escaped the attention of starry-eyed musicians like Isaac Masoko from Molepolole who is seeking to cash in on the flourishing genre.  Masoko, who goes by the stage name of Zakes Boloke, on March 31 released his debut album titled, Rantopi.
