It will be a fashion, music and comedy night; above all the May 7 event could be a great leap forward in the realisation of the anticipated Botswana Fashion Week, one of the Miss Botswana pageant organisers has said.

Bissau Gaobakwe revealed that Miss Botswana are planning to turn the Miss Botswana Fashion Show into a Botswana Fashion Week in a bid to lure more tourists to the country.

The transformation, according to Gaobakweof 63 Entertainment, is also meant to promote local talents in fashion design and modelling. The fashion show element of Miss Botswana was introduced in 2009.   Gaobakwe explained at a press briefing that the purpose of the event is to introduce the Top 16 contestants to the nation, so that people can see how much potential each contestant has. This year's fashion show, which is billed for May 7 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC), will be graced by South African business magnate Patrice Motsepe. Local designers, who will be showcasing their designs, are Bootcy and Saadia.   Bongiwe Walaza and Grapevine by Kgomotso from South Africa will also be on display.  "We will have South African designs to dispel the myth that South Africans are better than Batswana; we want our local talent to compete at international standard," he said.
