Kgathi was speaking on the first day of Pitso ya Ngwao held at Boipuso hall in Gaborone over the weekend. He emphasised that for the culture sector to contribute meaningfully to poverty eradication and employment creation, it should be able to bring significant financial returns for artists and cultural practitioners.
"It should be noted that no matter how unique cultural products and performances are, if they are of poor quality they will not be competitive in the global market and will not generate expected income. It is incumbent upon all artists and cultural practitioners to ensure that mediocrity is not promoted at the expense of excellence," he said.
