Masekela to perform at Botswanacraft

South African Afro jazz giant, Hugh Masekela will be performing at the Botswanacraft on April 29, the show organisers announced in Gaborone yesterday.

'Bra Hugh' will be sharing the stage with another luminary, local Afro artist Socca Moruakgomo, and the Botswana Jazz Quintet. Masekela's last performance in Gaborone was at the Boipuso Hall in 2008. Having lived in Botswana in the '80s, 'Bra Hugh' does not need any introduction here. In his autobiography, Still Grazing, Masekela talks about his experiences during his stay in Gaborone to which he has devoted a chapter.

In his book, the South African muso says he first came to Botswana in the early '80s for a cultural festival.  He started playing in a local group called Mother and toured the country with them.  The band was later renamed Kalahari.
